MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings reportedly have told Brett Favre to decide this week if he wants to play this year.
Coach Brad Childress imposed the deadline on the star quarterback, according to ESPN. The network cited two unidentified sources Monday on its Web site.
When Favre retired in February for the second time, he blamed a partially torn biceps tendon for his poor play late in the season for the New York Jets. The three-time NFL MVP said his health was the main reason behind his decision.
With the Vikings interested in bringing him back for a 19th season, however, Favre has reportedly been considering a comeback contingent on the full healing of his throwing arm.
ESPN has reported Favre had arthroscopic surgery sometime in May on his ailing right shoulder, but that it hasn't responded. The report said the 39-year-old wouldn't return to the game unless he feels better.
I don't think it's a matter of him wanting to be in the spotlight. He just wants to play football. It's all he's ever done while growing up in Mississippi. But I'm sure fans of other teams are too ignorant to see that and they just see the publicity he gets on ESPN and say he wants all the attention.
i actually like both a lot, but id lean toward favre... obviously, if i want to see him play for the vikings... but its tough for all pack fans to swallow
He'll be playing for the Vikings. The guy just doesn't want to stay away from the game. This is like the 3rd or 4th time where he retires and then comes back.
i think its by the end of the week... but knowing him he'll probably stretch it into next week
He shouldn't bother wasting non-Packer fans time by saying he is retired, then saying he was just kidding.
in his defense the packers front office did force him to make a decision early before he went to the jets... had they let him think about it... he would still be with the packers most likely... but i do have to say brett favre is brett favre and he does stupid things, lol... ill admit it... he can be a bonehead sometimes... but i love him...
