"Finnegan's Wake" is extraordinarily challenging. Many people give up on it shortly after attempting it. "Ulysses" is also challenging, although less linguistically and structurally impenetrable. "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" is a fine work of art and more easily approachable, although it is far from simple. "Dubliners," is a collection of short stories, written earlier than these three novels and the most approachable of the four. I may never understand "Finnegan's Wake," but any of the others is well worth the effort of reading.
